Polyethylene TR-0338-UI/UIG, a product of NOVA Chemicals Corporation of Canada, and of NOVA Chemicals (International)

NSF has assessed and certified TR-0338-UI/UIG for conformity with ANSI/NSF standards 14, 24, and 61.

United States:

TR-0388-UI/UIG complies with the specifications contained in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation 21 CFR 177.1520 for olefin polymers, para. 3.2a, and may thus be used in the United States as an article, or component of an article, intended for use in contact with food. TR-0388-UI/UIG are subject to the specific limitations that they may contact food only in articles having a volume of at least 5 U.S. gal., only at temperatures of 150 degrees F and below, and may not be used to hold ready-prepared foods intended to be reheated in the container at time of use.


The Health Products and Food Branch has indicated no objection to the use in Canada of TR-0388-UI/UIG for restricted food packaging applications. Information on the packaging of specific foodstuffs should be obtained from NOVA Chemicals or from the Health Products and Food Branch, Food Packaging Materials and Incidental Additives Section, Ottawa, Canada.

Stability & Reactivity Information:

Incompatibility: May react with strong oxidizing agents. Organic solvents, ether, gasoline, lubricating oils, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and aromatic hydrocarbons may react with, and degrade, polyethylene.


Product is not corrosive.

Ecological Information:

Polyethylene is an essentially biologically inert solid and considered non-toxic.

General Material Information:

This product is not known to be a hazardous waste according to US RCRA and Canadian regulations. Provincial jurisdictions use various hazardous waste control regulations and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act to define hazardous waste and appropriate packaging, reporting, storage, and transport. Do not attempt to dispose of by uncontrolled incineration.
